Derby Football Hub opens to fantastic public support and Civic Society Award
We're thrilled to announce the completion of our latest project, the Derby Racecourse Football Hub! This stunning facility, a jointly funded effort between Derby City Council and the Football Foundation, is set to redefine community sports provision in Derby.
Delivered under the UK Leisure Framework by Alliance Leisure Services, the hub is more than just a sports facility – it's a space designed to cater to the diverse needs of our community. With amenities including external artificial grass pitches, a café, changing rooms, seminar spaces, and fitness facilities, it's poised to become a hub of activity for both football enthusiasts and park users alike.
We're incredibly proud to have received recognition from the Derby Civic Society at the recent ABCD Awards 2024, where our hub was commended for its outstanding design, accessibility, and community focus.
Derby Racecourse Hub sits within a green triangle, historic parkland environment with significant challenges to delivery including the proximity of scheduled monuments, the location of the site on an ancient Roman trade route and not least the historic use of the site as a firing range with the risk of unexploded ordnance.
Archaeological excavations were carried out as an enabling works package prior to any works starting on site and an archaeological watching brief maintained throughout the substructure works. Bradshaw Gass & Hope LLP provided architectural, structural/civil engineering and principal designer services to Universal Group Ltd who acted as principal contractor on this £12m design and build project.
The site will be operated by Leisure United (LU), the charitable operating arm of the National Football Trust (NFT), who will re-invest any surplus revenue generated back into grassroots sport across the city.
