Yorkshire Post Environmental Awards 2009April 2010 saw the annual Yorkshire Post Environmental Awards Evening Gala, hosted by Julia Bradbury, with an address by Hillary Benn. BGH LLP hosted a table at which ISG and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were represented. We were there as a nominee for the Built Environment Award for Safety Central, Bramley, a community education and training facility that supports West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services commitment to fire safety awareness. It is intended that Safety Central will significantly assist West Yorkshire and its partners in delivering safety related outcomes for people living in West Yorkshire. The building not only provides community access but also showcases the Fire Services commitment to sustainable design with the re-use of existing buildings, provision of passive solar hot water, air source heat pumps, grey water collection, water use monitoring, PV cell power generation, improved insulation and high efficiency lighting and controls. The building is to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and acted as a catalyst for the Services drive towards a sustainable future. The evening was well attended with well over 300 guests, was a great success and enjoyed by all present. |
