The Kirklees Media Centre is one of the most innovative hubs in the UK for the creative and media sectors. This new development builds on the Media Centre’s success by providing additional high specification workspaces in the heart of Huddersfield.
As sustainability was a key design objective the building incorporates a range of features including a cooling system which utilises naturally cool water extracted from a local borehole, passive stack ventilation and photovoltaic cells all of which are independently controlled by a central building management system. The conceptual design was developed by London-based architects, Ash Sakula, with Bradshaw, Gass and Hope commissioned to undertake the detailed design and oversee the construction process. The building was opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 2007.
